Doug Landis Mouth Art Paintings - Amazing Mouth Art Pencil Drawings

Doug Landis - Mouth Art Painter

Fine art had to take a backseat while Doug pursued his many interests. He earned a B.A. in Media Studies from Webster University, in St. Louis, Missouri and went on to earn a M.F.A.in Motion Graphics at California Institute of the Arts in Valencia, California, the school founded by Walt Disney. It was at CalArts that Doug made two animated shorts. They were selected to be screened at the American Film Institute's Film Festival and copies of each were requested by Cal Art to remain in the California Institute of the Arts animation archives.

Returning to St. Louis, Doug returned to fine art. He began to turn his concern for wildlife into a pencil series. As he began studying endangered species, he felt confined by his limited reach. The power and strength he wanted to express in the animals couldn't be conveyed as a small image. So the self-taught artist taught himself again. Doug began to work on images upside down and sideways in order to create larger images and to do the animals justice.

To date his "Vanishing Breeds" series has been exhibited in Washington, D.C., Los Angeles, California, Las Vegas, Nevada, St. Louis, Missouri, and Brussels, Belgium. Doug has selected favorite pieces to print. In 2006 Doug was accepted into the International Mouth and Foot Painting Artists Association, (www.mfpausa.com & www.vdmfk.com).

Amazing Mehndi/Henna Designs Art - Mehndi, The Art Of Henna Tattoos For Skin Decoration In South Asia

Mehndi is the application of Henna as a temporary form of skin decoration in South Asia, as well as by expatriate communities from these areas. Mehendi decorations became fashionable in the West in the late 1990s, where they are sometimes called henna tattoos. Henna is typically applied during special occasions like weddings and festivals. It is usually drawn on the palms and feet, where the color will be darkest because the skin contains higher levels of keratin which binds temporarily to lawsone, the colorant of henna. Henna was originally used as a form of decoration mainly for brides.

The term henna tattoo is inaccurate, because tattoos are defined as permanent surgical insertion of pigments underneath the skin, as opposed to pigments resting on the surface as is the case with mehndi.

There is evidence that mehndi as a ceremonial art form originated in ancient India. Intricate patterns of mehndi are typically applied to brides before wedding ceremonies. The bridegroom is also painted in some parts of India, Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh and Sudan. In Rajasthan (north-west India), the grooms are given designs that are often as elaborate as those for brides. In Assam, apart from marriage, it is broadly used by unmarried women during Rongali bihu (there’s no restrictions to the married ones).
